The CarrotMob

A few days ago, I reviewed a Video about Flash Mob founder Bill Wasik – so I was already in the flash-mob-mood as I found this nice video about Carrot Flash Mobs at handmade 2.0:

I think the idea of carrotmobs is interesting. It helps to strengthen the local community and with that brings people together for the common sense. If I understand the idea of carrotmobs correctly, carrotmobs give money to small companies, so that they could invest in green technology and thus saving energy.

But since I have watched Bjoern Lomborgs talk about “Our priorities for saving the world” – one question always pops out if I hear about a new organization which wants to make a difference:

So many people in the world need help – so many people as we all know die every day from diseases which we already can heal or die of malnutrition. So keeping that in mind – I wonder if carrot mobs are actually a good thing – or just another entertainment tool for well intentioned people who don’t want to face the real problems which are not that fun dealing with?!
