Whenever I talk about whether socialism can be successful or not – (I believe it’s virtual impossible without suppressing people) my discussion partner will always come up with Cuba. No matter, if I discuss with colleagues, students or my professors – there is always that phrase … but in Cuba it works …
Since I have honestly now clue about what’s is going on in Cuba I usually just reply: “Really, are you sure?”
Today while the computer was putting this nice picture about getDocued together – I asked myself who is gD? I mean, yes we are all about new ideas, inspiring thoughts, about international affairs – in a way trying to be pretty “global”.
But who else is global? I mean most blogs seem to be a) very nation focused like most of the German or US Blogs or b) they are very focused on one topic – like the newest web gadgets or foreign affairs. So I guess what I’m trying to say is, that recently I’m looking for like minded blogs and platforms – so we can together create something more meaningful, sophisticated and inspiring. So plz. leave me any comments for Blogs I should go to and people I should talk to.
I just love such fast past videos like that. I guess I just get enthusiastic way to easily… if you give me some facts and some beats – that’s sometimes it’s all it takes. But however the social media revolution is really fast if you compare it with anyother technique ever. It’s social and in a way deeply democratic.
Today I just want to present a certrain website I found through Twitter, which is PolitiFact.
PolitiFact is a project of the St. Petersburg Times to help you find the truth in American politics. Reporters and editors from the Times fact-check statements by members of Congress, the White House, lobbyists and interest groups and rate them on our Truth-O-Meter. We’re also tracking more than 500 of Barack Obama’s campaign promises and are rating their progress on our new Obameter. >> More
Make sure you check out that site, I think it is a terrific approach to keep track of American politicians – and more over how – truthful they are.
A few days ago, I reviewed a Video about Flash Mob founder Bill Wasik – so I was already in the flash-mob-mood as I found this nice video about Carrot Flash Mobs at handmade 2.0:
I think the idea of carrotmobs is interesting. It helps to strengthen the local community and with that brings people together for the common sense. If I understand the idea of carrotmobs correctly, carrotmobs give money to small companies, so that they could invest in green technology and thus saving energy.
But since I have watched Bjoern Lomborgs talk about “Our priorities for saving the world” – one question always pops out if I hear about a new organization which wants to make a difference:
So many people in the world need help – so many people as we all know die every day from diseases which we already can heal or die of malnutrition. So keeping that in mind – I wonder if carrot mobs are actually a good thing – or just another entertainment tool for well intentioned people who don’t want to face the real problems which are not that fun dealing with?!
